The Hendersonville Bearcats won their fifth consecutive NCHSAA 2A Dual Team Tennis Championship with a 5-2 win over Research Triangle in a rematch of the 2021 title match. The current NCHSAA 2A Individual Doubles Champions Eliza Perry and Ramsey Ross scored the deciding point as they won their doubles match with Olivia Hankinson and Natalia Stephens to give Hendersonville the 5-2 win. Perry, who was named MVP, lost 6-3, 6-3 in her singles match to the current NCHSAA 2A Individual Singles Champion Olivia Hankinson. Ross also lost her singles match to Research Triangle’s Victoria Zhou but those were the only points that the Raptors scored in the match. Raleigh Pritchard (6-3, 7-5), Reese Redden (6-3, 6-4), Anna Macdowell (6-0, 4-6 [10-4]) and Sophia Gallian (6-0, 6-0) each won their singles matches to set up the dynamic doubles duo to clinch the match. It was the first loss of the year for Research Triangle as they finished the year 17-1, the Bearcats wrapped up 2023 18-0. The Association has partnered with the North Carolina Farm Bureau to award a pair of Sportsmanship Awards at each championship event, recognizing players who have demonstrated the ideals of outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2023 season. The winners of the 2A Women’s Tennis NC Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Awards are Ramsey Ross from Hendersonville and Olivia Hankinson from Research Triangle.
