The Mount Airy Granite Bears won their third straight and sixth overall NCHSAA 1A Women’s Dual Team Tennis Championship on Saturday morning with a win against East Champion Voyager Academy. Also for the third straight year, Mount Airy swept the championship match 5-0. The Granite Bears dropped just nine games in the six singles matches. Carrie Marion, fresh off a runner up finish in the NCHSAA 1A Individual Doubles Championships, won her match 6-2, 6-0 and was named MVP. Both Ella Brant and Lynn Meadows won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Lily Morris won her match 6-3, 6-1 and Audrey Brown won 6-0, 6-2. Emmie Brant was leading her match 6-3, 3-0 when it was stopped as Mount Airy had already clinched the title match. The NCHSAA is committed to recognizing outstanding sportsmanship in each of our State Championship events. The Association has partnered with the North Carolina Farm Bureau to award a pair of Sportsmanship Awards at each championship event, recognizing players who have demonstrated the ideals of outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2023 season.
