Providence won the 2024 4A Girls Tennis state championship vs Cardinal Gibbons, 5 at Burlington.

Providence beat Cardinal Gibbons 5-3 to win the first Women’s Dual Team title in school history. Saturday marked the Panther’s first appearance in the championship match since a 5-0 loss to Broughton in 2001. Natasha Wallace, playing in the No. 2 singles spot, won her match 6-3, 6-0, and then teamed with Sasha Wallace in doubles to beat Celeste Davis and Anya Aga 8-3 for the championship-sealing point. Natasha Wallace was named the Most Valuable Player. The Panthers also saw singles wins from Vivian Wu, Carolina Artemenko, and Katelyn Soden. For the Crusaders, Davis and Kylie Ryan earned singles points, and Ava Staub and Kaya Jantac teamed up for a doubles win. Providence’s Wu and Ira Chitte were leading their doubles match when Wallace and Wallace sealed the win. Providence ended the season 20-1, while Gibbons suffered its first defeat and finished 2024 25-1. The NCHSAA is committed to recognizing outstanding sportsmanship in each of our State Championship events. The Association has partnered with the North Carolina Farm Bureau to award a pair of Sportsmanship Awards at each championship event, recognizing players who have demonstrated the ideals of outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2024 season.
